Affordable Travel Guide to Caribbean

The Islands of the Caribbean

Caribbean

Everyone Loves a Vacation in Paradise; Choose one!

The Caribbean. Who doesn’t want to go there! Sun, heat, sand and sea, plus a range of travel options from roughing it to optimum luxury. Beat that! Each island has its own distinct flavor, some of that based on what country owns it, some due to specific topography, and some to the locals that add their version of flair to their island paradises.

We have Canadian readers (a couple in their 50s) of Affordable Travel who go to the Caribbean every winter, but never to the same island. They have three years to go to have seen them all, and have concluded which ones are their favorites; they’ll return to those ones again and again once their island-hopping travels are done.

A Good Place to Vacation in Winter

The islands of the Caribbean are predictable in the ways you need them to be and varied to keep it fresh and surprising. Unless you go directly in hurricane season, late June to early November, you are pretty much guaranteed great weather. The crime rate is quite low in most of the islands (we’ll warn you if any are known to be dangerous). The weather is sub-tropical to tropical. All of them boast some type of beaches and ocean views, some have jungles and plantations, mountains and caves.

The beauty of the Caribbean in general is that all tourists are there for the same reason: to unwind, enjoy the sunshine and relax. This commonality ensures single-purpose enjoyment, and result in countless global friendships. Another set of Affordable Travel readers met in 2003 in Martinique; one couple loves in Germany and the other in Philadelphia; they meet every year for a week of sun and surf and camaraderie on a different Caribbean island.
