Don't Miss The Timeless Delights Of Lido Di Venezia
An entirely separate neighbourhood, the Lido di Venezia (aka “the Lido”) is also part and parcel of the total Venice experience. While it has its own character, very much old-style European resort-oriented, it is south of the main city and essential to its charm. The Lido of Venice is accessible by water taxi or water-bus, and offers a range of luxurious smaller hotels and inns.
Situated on an 11-km long (6.8mi) sandbar, the Lido, obviously, boasts a lovely sandy beach, very popular with the 20,400 locals as well as tourists. Relaxed and casual the Lido offers all sorts of small shops and boutiques, cafés and restaurants (many specializing in seafood), and gelato outlets, all within a classic Mediterranean architectural style.
The Lido di Venezia is home to the glittering, world-famous, Venice Film Festival in late August and early September each year; then it is full to capacity.
