Motu Tane
At the time of writing, this private island is for sale. For $39-million USD. Yes, you read that correctly. Your own island in French Polynesia, with all the goodies (in-house spa, commercial kitchen, air-conditioning, thickly forested with coconut palms and fully encircled by a perfect white sand beach, with a couple of guest houses). Air-conditioning is crucial here, as Bora Bora is extremely hot and humid all year long.
About 1.5 hectares (roughly 4 acres) in size, Motu (which means “islet”) Tane will be bought and enjoyed for one reason only: relaxation. There is, other than walking the beach or swimming, utterly nothing to do. It is 10 minutes by boat from the main island of Bora Bora, and is between two other tiny islands in the Society Islands Group, namely Paahi and Pitoraverahi. There’s nothing to do on those islands, either.
Until someone buys Motu Tane, the population is zero. If you do think your cash flow permits the purchase of Motu Tane, be prepared for long, lazy days which might see you bored (most seasoned travellers say four days on Bora Bora is enough), but also be certain to research what you need (depending on your current citizenship) to buy property in France.
