Otemanu

Mount Otemanu is the highest point on the south Pacific Island group, Bora Bora. Rising to 727 metres, or 23, 851 feet, above sea level, Mount Otemanu is capped with a wide spire that narrows to a broad point jutting out above its lush green slopes. The mountain is very old, and used to be volcanic, but now stands silent.

Next to Mount Otemanu is Bora Bora’s other main mountain, Mount Pahia; together they are regarded as the island’s twin peaks. And they take up much of the land area of the main Bora Bora Island (there are a few tiny islands in the lagoon).

Otemanu is a distinctly unusual shape, and visitors to the island are invariably struck by it. The rugged ancient volcanic rock and thick coating of vegetation, surrounded by the unbelievably turquoise waters of the lagoon are the subject of many a prized vacation photograph and postcard. There is a sense of both spirit and sentry about Mount Otemanu.
